Leith Walk redesign snagging update (January 2026)
Leith Walk Liberal Democrat Councillor Jack Caldwell has been pushing for fixes down Leith Walk since the completion of the trams project two years ago.
Since previous updates, a number of his 82 outstanding issues have been resolved, including No Entry signs at Jane Street, replaced pavements near Iona Street, bollards at the end of Montgomery Street, more secure cycle racks, accessible tactile pavements at junctions,
However many outstanding matters remain, including the wrecked junction at Dalmeny Street, the merger of the Elm Row cycle lane (to stop it going in front of a bus stop), bollards to protect Elm Row pedestrian access, missing dropped-kerbs near Balfour Street, rattling utility covers, and more.
The City of Edinburgh Council has drawn up a snagging list and published the numbers at https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/tramstonewhaven. As of writing, it shows 84 “red” scored issues have been rectified, and 72 “red” issues remain open.
Other “redesign” works that are set to be progressed re-opening Brunswick Street, and widening the pavement at the Scotmid near Pilrig Street.
Councillor Caldwell is meeting the project lead on January 29th, and is meeting with the parking team to walk down Leith Walk on February 17th to discuss loading and parking.
