Working with Local Organisations
Sanne Dijkstra-Downie, MSP for Edinburgh Northern, has used Parliamentary recess to meet with organisations, community groups, businesses and constituents throughout Inverleith.
By visiting the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sanne learned about their impactful environmental research, working with nature to prevent flooding and the palm house refurbishments. She visited the Inverleith Petanque Club to hear about the recreational opportunities for the local community and to help find a solution for the future of the club’s facilities. Sanne also met with cancer and genetics researchers at the Western General Hospital to find out about exciting advances in science, and new treatments for cancer and genetic conditions.
In addition, Sanne has visited local businesses to hear about the challenges they are facing – increasing employment and energy costs, challenges of retaining staff, or lack of clarity over guidance from Council or Governments were all issues raised.
Meeting individuals with meaningful community initiatives and a commitment to improving their local areas gave Sanne the chance to hear directly from constituents about ways to make Inverleith an even better place to live, and how she can support these as the local MSP.
