Sylvan Place is a far cry from its wooded origins and is between a rock and a hard place. Completion of the old Children's Hospital site is now predicted to be May 2025, while residents have already endured three years of disruption. The road is subject to full closure till then. Part of this is due to the on-going water and sewage works at the Meadows/Marchmont Road, necessitating a different set of traffic diversion signs.

At the same time, Councillor Pauline Flannery has been trying to secure 24 hour protection access for medical staff and residents to Sylvan Lane. As this is a private road it falls outwith the Council's remit, Sylvan Place is not. Beyond the hospital site is Sciennes Primary, subject to on-going delayed decisions over TRO status fronting the school, exacerbated by children's safety concerns. This area-matrix is chaotic and the people who are missing out are its residents.
