Success! - Lib Dems secure promise to reopen road promenade

26 Feb 2024

After years of campaigning, the local LibDem team has succeeded in getting agreement to re-open the road from Silverknowes to the promenade
to vehicles. Following a review by council officers, initiated by the Lib Dems, the decision was taken to reopen the road to all vehicles, with  segregated two-way cycle lanes retained all the way down. The road is wide enough to accommodate this.

Council officers also agreed to change the “quiet route” involving Silverknowes Road, Court and Place. Detailed changes should be published in the new few months.

Councillor Louise Young said: “When we surveyed local people on the issue in the past, a significant majority of local residents were in favour of having the road to the prom reopened. There was a lot of concern at the 3km detour along Silverknowes Parkway, Muirhouse Parkway and Marine Drive. We are pleased to have got this agreed at last.”
