School Crossing Patrols

4 Oct 2023

Concerned residents have continued to raise the lack of crossing patrols across the area, but especially on Drum Brae North.

In answer to a question from the Lib Dem team, it was revealed that there are currently 45 crossing locations across the city which are unstaffed due to vacant positions.

In our area, this included Drum Brae North/Barntongate Avenue and Drum Brae North/Duart Crescent.

Local Lib Dem councillor Ed Thornley said "We know that the Barntongate crossing towards Clermiston Primary has been a particularly difficult position to fill, with previous appointments either falling through or simply moving on to other jobs.

"But this crossing is vital for children getting to school at Clermiston, and we need to get someone in place.

"I've spoken with the Council team, who tell me that the recruitment process is about to begin again and they hope to have someone in place soon.

"However, there is clearly a recruitment challenge in getting people into these posts which needs to be addressed."
