A new crossing on Pilrig Street is back on the table after an extra £.16m for road safety in Liberal Democrat budget proposals.

The traffic island on Pilrig Street, near Dryden Street, has been through redesigns for around a decade and was previously removed from the Road Safety Priorities list.

Additionally, Leith Walk Lib Dem Councillor Jack Caldwell has submitted proposals to Council officers for a full set of traffic lights on the junction of St Clair Street, Easter Road and Dalmeny Street, after many residents have raised concerns. A decision will be made by the Transport and Environment committee in the Summer.

Councillor Caldwell said “After speaking to many people who live close by to the junction, it's clear that there needs to be a safer way for people to cross. Not only was there a fatal incident two years ago, but many people have pointed out it's an incredibly long wait.”
