Residents must have a say on Turnhouse Bus Gate

7 Oct 2025

The Council has announced plans to install a bus gate on Turnhouse Road, north of the industrial estate, meaning that only buses would be able to pass through at peak times.

Residents and businesses south of the bus gate would not have their access to Maybury junction changed. There is a requirement for public consultation before any changes could be made permanent.

Lothian Buses have said that a bus gate is the only way they could run a reliable service through the West Craigs development.

Local Lib Dem councillor Ed Thornley said, “We know that there are concerns about this potential bus gate, and equally about the lack of bus service in West Craigs presently. That’s why it’s so important that local people have a chance to have their say before a final decision is taken.

“We would encourage residents to keep and eye out for that and take part when it comes.”
