Leith Walk Lib Dem Councillor Jack Caldwell says: "A few years ago I queried with Network Rail Scotland about the yellow "temporary" fencing on the bridge at Broughton Road. They informed me that it was required but they were looking to deisgn a replacement.

A few weeks ago a constituent got in touch about them, so I followed up with Network Rail who have now confirmed they will have a permenant replacement in Financial Year 26/27. This is disappointing given the number of years we've been waiting for a permenant solution and the narrowness of the pavement here, but at least we're closer to a solution."

Additionally, after discussions with Council officers a few years ago, this pavement will be widened as part of the transformation works at the nearby McDonald Road junction. This will be seeking funding in FY26/27 too. Details of the pavement widening can be found at storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/5095ece461fb4ddb89142ddb8e938f79

Meanwhile the Council is still awaiting negotiations between Network Rail Scotland and their operators to conclude so the Council can register interest in purchasing the old railway and turn it into part of the North Edinburgh Path Network.
