Princes Street Fire
Local Lib Dem councillor Hal Osler said, "The emergency services deserve our heartfelt thanks for their response to the fire at the former Debenhams Store. That incident at the beginning of July has had a massive impact, with a section of Princes Street remaining closed, transit around the city being impacted, and businesses losing custom.”
Sanne Dijkstra-Downie, Liberal Democrat Edinburgh Northern MSP, wrote to the First Minister and successfully demanded that Edinburgh receive appropriate, immediate compensation and support from the Scottish Government.

Hal added, “It is also clear there are gaps in the Council’s business continuity plans and civil contingency arrangements. That’s why the Liberal Democrat Council Group have submitted a motion for Council’s approval to consider this very important work and a timeline for bringing something forward. This will be discussed at the Council meeting on Thursday 27th August, where we can hopefully win the support of the other parties.”
