While plans were first put forward in 2024, budget issues delayed it significantly.

In February 2026, the Lib Dems won an additional £500,000 to get the park lighting programme back on track across the city.

After liaising with the local community, Councillor Caldwell is happy to say the plans are now progressing and the lighting should be installed later this summer, likely in August.

The new lighting will include several locations of lower, more sensitive lighting, due to ‘bat roosting potential’ in some trees.

In an improvement to the original plans, the new lighting will now also be installed on the path next to Pilrig Park School.

Councillor Caldwell praised community groups including the Friends of Pilrig Park and Leith Central Community Council for their patience and dialogue with all ward councillors during the delays.
