Overhaul of Barnton Junction Planned

31 Jul 2025

Plans to overhaul the Barnton Junction, to improve traffic flow and make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists, are to be consulted on later this year.

The changes will include a new traffic light controlled junction at Cammo Gardens and Maybury Road.

Other elements being considered include a cycle lane on the east side of Whitehouse Road between the Barnton Junction and Brae Park, and changes to parking to make the area around the shops safer.

Local Lib Dem councillor Ed Thornley said, "Changes are clearly needed at the Barnton junction. With so much traffic passing through every day though, we know there are limited options available.

“However, some things definitely can be done, especially if it can be made safer for pedestrians, and it's important that local residents can have their say when the consultation opens.”
