In June, the Council’s Finance committee agreed to appoint a contractor to work on the first stage of the West Edinburgh Link project – which includes the long-planned upgrade to the path running behind Torwood Crescent.

Local Lib Dem councillor Ed Thornley, who has been campaigning for this for three years, said, “It’s great to finally see movement on this after years of delay while waiting for the project to be funded.

“It’s so important that this path is made safe and looked after properly, so I’m also glad that the Council will be adopting it for maintenance after work is complete.

“The state of this path, and that it’s unlit, has been a real concern for so many residents who have emailed me – especially women who have to walk along it at night.

“Now we need to make sure this work goes ahead as swiftly as possible, and hopefully get it done before the longer winter nights get here.”
