Maidencraig Steps Update

2 Aug 2023

Earlier in July, I and a member of Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP’s team met with residents of Queen’s Court who are deeply concerned about the state of the steps that connect Queen’s Road to Maidencraig Crescent and are on the route taken by many heading to and from Craigleith Retail Park.

Over the last couple of years there have been a few very nasty falls on the steps which have resulted in many now lacking confidence in using the steps safely, so limiting mobility and access. What is required for the steps is a ramp which would make the link accessible for all.

Unfortunately despite pushing this for a number of years at Council it has never been considered a “priority”. I have now managed to get the steps considered as an active travel project so am hopefully we can get something progressed. It will still take a while to deliver as plans have to be drawn up and funding secured.

Alex Cole-Hamilton has written to the Minister to press the case for the funding and I will continue to push the Council to get it to design stage.
