Lib Dems win road safety improvements in Bonnington

Councillor Caldwell has won a road safety improvement at the Newhaven Road end of Pitt Street.
The Council will now look to install pavement build-outs at either side of Pitt Street, and a raised table to calm traffic.
Councillor Caldwell said:
Thank you to the many residents around Bonnington who discussed pedestrian improvements on the doors in recent years. Despite a backdrop of cuts to traffic calming projects, we bucked the trend and won extended pavements and a raised table for the end of Pitt Street!
There's a video showing the junction at fb.watch/AgXfYdgu-b/, but in summary, the proposal should:
- Make crossing a lot quicker, more visible and safer for pedestrians on a school route.
- Help reduce speeding / ratrunning down Pitt Street.
- Not reduce any parking spaces.
- Help protect parked vehicles from being rammed into.
While I was delighted to sponsor this project and get it on the list, I want to speak to more residents and businesses around here in the coming months particularly about maintaining (legal) Loading on Double Yellow Lines, and pushing for trees on the pavements - while the latter is something I want, it's vital that residents are kept on-board."
