The Council has delayed a decision on turning the old Bingo Hall on Manderston Street into Student Accomodation.

Local Leith Walk Lib Dem Councillor Jack Caldwell said “In my view, the Halmyre Place Brief shows a clear desire for social-rent and affordable housing, and I raised concerns directly with the developers at early stages that there is no affordable housing in this proposal. You can read the full Brief at https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/downloads/download/14637/leith-walkhalmyre-street-place-brief. I'm grateful to colleagues on the committee for deciding to postpone the decision and learn a bit more about the proposal”

This application will be brought back to the Development Management Sub-Committee later this year for a full hearing, meaning there will be opportunity for more voices to be heard.

The plans can be viewed on the Planning portal under 24/01162/FUL.
