Latest news on Greenbank/Meadows Quiet Route
Today the Council decided to make permanent the traffic orders for the Greenbank/Meadows Quiet Route but with the removal of the modal filters on Braid Avenue, Hermitage Gardens and Canaan Lane. The modal filter on Braid Road is to remain in place.
The traffic order contained drafting errors for these three modal filters which made the order legally unsafe and unenforceable unless they were removed. The order runs out on 15 June 2026 so I assume they will be removed by that date.
The order for the Comiston Road cycle lanes was made permanent without any changes.
The decisions were taken by the non-political, quasi-judicial TRO Sub Committee of the Council. The quasi-judicial nature of the committee means that councillors must be objective in their decision-making and are not allowed to act on party political lines. The report is item 4.1 on the agenda here.
Council officers have said they will bring a further report on future options for the Quiet Route to the next meeting of the Transport Committee on 18 June.
