Inverleith Gully Clearing
A recent Council question from the Lib Dems has uncovered details of the number of road gullies that residents have reported in the last six months (by Ward) and how many of those ad hoc requests were actually attended to within a month. In the Inverleith Ward, the number of requests was 220 and the number cleaned was 36. Reasons given for the low clearance rate have been to do with reduced resources and priority being given to cyclical cleaning. Officers have said that staff vacancies have now been filled and additional resources will now be given to reported ad hoc requests.
Hal Osler says “I am shocked but not surprised by the figures quoted. Inverleith was the second highest ward in terms of number of reports and surprisingly has the highest number cleared. Ironically, at 16%, Inverleith performed well above the average of 6.6% but this is still not good enough. Understandably concerns over flooding within the Ward is the main reason that residents report blocked gullies and these need action. If you have reported a blocked gully to the Council and are still waiting for it to be attended to over a month later please let me know hal.osler@edinburgh.gov.uk.”
