With work well underway at the junction, residents have raised concerns about the volume of traffic on Turnhouse Road - especially once schools go back in August.

Phases 1 & 2 of the works are now complete, with Phase 3 beginning in August and lasting three months. The full works are due to finish at the start of next year.

The works will see a fully signalised junction put in place which will also ensure public transport can access and serve the new West Craigs estate. While there is still significant traffic pressure and delays on Turnhouse Road as a result of the diversion, this has lessened slightly during the school holidays.

Local Lib Dem councillor Ed Thornley said, "The closure of Craigs Road has had a big impact, and the original arrangements for the diversion were completely inadequate.

"We managed to get change made early on, such as the re-opening of the right-hand turn coming out of Turnhouse Road, and are continuing to push officers to make further changes to help improve traffic flow out of the estate.

“The most important thing is that works on the junction are completed as quickly as possible - to allow buses to serve West Craigs, to let traffic flow more smoothly and to re-open the entry and exit points of the estate.”
