In November the Lib Dems won all-party support for a motion calling for Edinburgh to be given special permission for a speeding enforcement pilot.

At present, only Police Scotland can enforce speeding fines in Edinburgh. However, Wandsworth Council in London recently was granted an experimental order to commence a pilot scheme, allowing it to issue its own fines for excessive speeding within residential 20mph zones, separate from police enforcement, with all monies raised reinvested into road safety initiatives.

Agreement has now been reached that the Convenor of Transport and Environment will write to the Scottish Government to request that Edinburgh Council be allowed to undertake a similar pilot study in Scotland.
