Bus Connections - Craigleith/Stockbridge

4 Apr 2024

Many residents still write regarding the poor bus connection service in the Craigleith area especially since the removal of the 42 and the lack of direct connection to Stockbridge. I do raise this with Lothian fairly regularly, please see below their latest response …

"The previous service between Craigleith and Stockbridge was withdrawn due to very low usage making the service financially unviable, it is unlikely that any new service would be able to overcome this hurdle.  When we replied to CBCC we mentioned a possible alteration to service 38 to make the connection easier, however a raft of roadworks both last year and this year on the route of service 38 make this currently unachievable.

With regard to our new X47 service we have introduced this to provide extra capacity on Queensferry Road and we feel that any diversion via Orchard Brae (with the associated extra journey time) would lead customers back to the busier service 43 buses.  As the service is only due to begin next week we begin monitoring the service and further consider this in the future."
