A year of fixes around Leith Walk ward - in numbers

Communal recycling bins overflowing on Balfour Street

Looking back at my weekly Leith Walk "ward patrols" over 2023, I've spotted, reported and got action on;

  • 84 overflowing communal bins (waste and recycling)
  • 53 flytipped items
  • 41 instances of graffiti on Council property
  • 23 cracked or loose paving stones
  • 22 overlfowing litter bins
  • 14 overflowing food waste recycling bins
  • 8 blocked drains
  • 4 knocked bollards
  • 3 unlit road signs (pic below)
  • 2 traffic light outrages

This is just through the Council website and on top of casework issues reported by constituents and more fundemental issues such as street design, the need for new infrastructure, or major projects such as tramworks on Leith Walk itself which unlike the above I post about frequently here.

Please remember you can demand better and report issues at edinburgh.gov.uk/report !

I'm incredibly grateful to every Council staff member who is able to respond to these, and I think things are generally looking cleaner and better maintained in recent months.

As always please email cllr.jack.caldwell@edinburgh.gov.uk if there are more serious or uresolved issues around Abbeyhill, Bonnington, Broughton, Canonmills, Easter Road, Hillside, Leith and Pilrig!
