Magdala Steps Replacement

19 Feb 2024

Work is due to take place to replace the steps leading from the Water of Leith pathway up to the corner of Magdala Crescent/Douglas Crescent.

The work will include removing and replacing the existing timber risers, thereby creating new, evenly spaced steps, installing a new wooden handrail on the woodland side and refurbishing the metal handrail attached to the wall. To allow for the works to happen obviously the steps will have to be closed, and this is due to happen for approximately one week from Monday 29th January 2024. The path will remain open throughout the works and diversion signs will be in place.

Local Lib Dem councillor Hal Osler said, “I am delighted to hear that these well-used steps are being upgraded and made safer to use. A lot of
much-needed investment is going into the Water of Leith pathway to try to make the area safer to access. This is a huge and ongoing challenge given the terrain and constraints along the narrow route. I would ask everyone using the pathway to be considerate in sharing with others, this will help make the walkway as safe and accessible as possible, so it can be enjoyed equally by all.”
