The Council's Tram to Newhaven project will be finishing up soon. Council officers are compiling and working through outstanding issues raised by constituents in the area.

Loose paving slabs

A number of residents have been reporting loose stones when walking over them. On first inspection, there seems to be an issue with the grouting material however Council officers are looking into this with the contractors.

Cracked paving slabs

Councillor Caldwell is seeking assurances that some of these will be covered in the defects period, and is still pressing for physical infrastructure and alternate loading provision to deter pavement parking in the most significant locations going forward.

Line markings

The yellow gird at Annandale Street is unfinished and has been added to the defect list. Similarly, the yellow gird box at Balfour Street is no longer requried and Councillor Caldwell has requested it's removal.

In May, a Traffic Regulation Order will come forward to make changes to various double yellow lines and possibly loading bays. These plans will be publicly available and invite feedback before any implementation.

End of Montgomery Street

As previously detailed, works are still to take place at the new 'turning circle' at the end of Montgomery Street. This includes lining and physical infrastructure to stop driving over the pavement.

Cycle parking

Many constituents have pointed out that the areas around Stead's Place and Elm Row have no bike racks anymore, so Trams to Newhaven are liaising with the Active Travel team to look at locations which would not be in the way of pedestrians.

Outstanding defects

Councillor Caldwell currently has a list of open issues which he is raising with Council offciers. This includes signage that needs updated, such as at Jane Street, road safety on side streets, and street furniture locations.

The Liberal Democrats believe that everyone should have the freedom to travel safely and comfortably across the city, so have been leading calls for extra scrutiny on major infrastructure projects, such as the tramline. Updates will continue to be posted.

As always, constituents are welcome to contact cllr.jack.caldwell@edinburgh.gov.uk if they have concerns or want clarification.
