Cllr Caldwell was informed on Friday 9th May that works are set to commence on Monday 12th May.

As detailed previously on this blog in July and November 2024, works are set to include;

  • A move of both sides of the cycle lane to the “shop” side of the trees to reduce the amount of crossings for bus passengers and make the bus shelter less of an “island”.
  • The parking spaces will be paralell rather than angled end-on. They will now be 6 parking spaces, 2 blue badge bays and 1 loading bay.
  • A path will be paved through the “teardrop” shaped grass at the corner of London Road.
  • Bollards and a cycle cut-through will be installed at the end of Montgomery Street.

A Temporary Traffic Regulation Order will be published to temporarily close the road and allow works to go ahead.

Cllr Jack Caldwell said “These improvements have been needed for a long time and have been working with residents for a while to obtain a number of safety and pedestrian access changes such as the bollards. I have requested assurances from Council officers that businessess will be made aware, and I understand a number of businesses have been visited and made aware already”.
