Edinburgh councillors have been debating the future of the 'Spaces for People' measures introduced under special legislation during lockdown.
Liberal Democrats have welcomed many of the measures across the city.
Local councillor Gillian Gloyer said, "It was a good idea to widen pavements and restrict car access around our schools, and I'm pleased that those measures will stay.
“However, the pavement extensions on St John's Rd caused delays to buses and encouraged car-drivers to use residential streets as rat-runs.
“I'm glad that the administration have agreed not to retain these extensions and promised instead to consult local businesses about ways to improve pedestrian safety there."
