Plans recently submitted to the Council by the Downing Group have disappointed local residents as the proposal for an underground car park has been removed.
The plans are for a mixed use development comprising residential (8 houses and 118 flats), student accommodation 323 beds, communal space, cycle/car parking provision and public realm enhancements. The development involves partial demolition of existing buildings, erection of new buildings and change of use/conversion of retained buildings but no longer contains proposals for an underground car park.
The detailed plans can be viewed by going to the Council’s website and, under Planning and building, selecting ‘Comment on a planning application’.
The reference numbers for the applications are:

Marchmont & Sciennes Community Council has suggested that comments are focused on the following three target areas in order to improve the chances of changing the design -
• Restoring the underground parking proposal from the 3rd public exhibition;
• Increasing the set back along the length of Sylvan Place; and
• Pressing for an increase in the size of the community space to make it viable.
Comments can be made online or by post and the deadline is Friday 20th July.
