The Scottish Liberal Democrats have had their best ever European Election results this May, electing Sheila Ritchie as MEP for Scotland. The result has shown the Lib Dems are now the biggest challenger to the SNP in Edinburgh.
Scottish Lib Dem leader Willie Rennie has said, “We have had brilliant results in Edinburgh and I would like to thank everyone who voted for us. Each vote for the Scottish Lib Dems was a vote to keep Scotland in Britain and Europe.”
“With our best ever results in European elections, we are now the biggest opposition party to the SNP in Edinburgh, with many Conservative and Labour voters backing us now to say no to Independence and to stop Brexit.”
- The Scottish Liberal Democrats are winning in Edinburgh West and have won a strong second place across the city.
- In Edinburgh South the Lib Dems overtook the Conservatives and Labour to come close to topping the poll.
- Support for Labour and the Conservatives is down, whilst the Scottish Greens stalled across Edinburgh.
- With both the SNP and Greens pushing for independence, the Lib Dems are the only pro- UK and pro-EU voice.
Many Labour and Conservative voters are now backing the Lib Dems to stop the SNP.
