At the council meeting on 24 June the ruling group on the council decided to press ahead with the first step towards making the bike lanes on Drum Brae North permanent.
Despite strong opposition from local residents and opposition from Lib Dems and others, the SNP/Labour administration are to seek an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order, which would keep the bike lanes for at least a further 18 months.
Robert Aldridge said: "The overwhelming view of the consultation was to remove the bike lanes. They are barely used, and there is a serious traffic hazard at the brow of the hill, quite apart from the practical difficulties faced by residents who live on Drum Brae North.
"Thanks to everyone who responded to the consultation. I will continue to use every opportunity to try to get the council to see sense on this.
