Braid Road safety consultation

The City Council is carrying out a public consultation on proposals to improve road safety on Braid Road.  Several local people have been in contact with me to express their concerns over the potential for accidents resulting from the difficulty of crossing Braid Road safely at the Braid Hills Road crossroads, speeding in the section of the road between Mortonhall Golf Club and the Hermitage Drive crossroads and issues of access and congestion on Braidburn Terrace and Comiston Place

Recycling and refuse collection muddle

As previously reported in the Citizen, the Council has changed the collection arrangements for garden waste to once every three weeks, instead of the more useful two weekly collection throughout most of the year, with four weekly in the winter.

Community use for the Sick Kids site

With the services of the Sick Kids Hospital moving to Little France, the famous site on the edge of the Meadows is now up for sale.  Initial bids have come in from a large number of developers, including the people behind Summerhall.  However, there is also an innovative community right to buy initiative being organised by the newly formed Marchmont and Sciennes Development Trust, with the endorsement of the Community Council

SNP cuts £26 million from Edinburgh Council’s budget

SNP and Green Members of the Scottish Parliament have voted through a massive £26 million cut to Edinburgh City Council’s budget.

It will mean a massive real terms reduction in the money available for vital local services. Liberal Democrat MSPs voted against the SNP/Green budget.
