Lib Dem councillors have brought forward a motion calling for the creation of a proper maintenance and management plan for trees across Edinburgh.
Local councillor Ed Thornley, who proposed the motion, said, "The Council has the very important goal of becoming a Million Tree City by 2030. That means not only planting plenty of new trees but also looking after established trees and making sure that new trees survive.
"There would be no point planting thousands and thousands of trees if they then aren't sufficiently watered and cared for, and they then die.
"Over the last couple of years, we've been reminded of the benefits for our mental and physical health of our trees and greenspaces - making it even more important that they are properly maintained.
"I'm very glad to see this motion pass, with agreement from all councillors, and I hope it will begin the process of us looking after our natural resources better."
