Lib Dems win in Leith Walk

The Scottish Lib Dems made a surprise gain in Leith Walk ward with the north east of the city having a Lib Dem Councillor for the first time in 10 years.

The communities of Powderhall, Leith, Broughton, Easter Road, Hillside, Bonnington, Canonmills and Pilrig have voted for a new Lib Dem Councillor.

Councillor Jack Caldwell now joins three colleagues in representing the ward.

After defying the pundits both locally and nationally, Leith Walk Lib Dem Councillor Jack Caldwell said “Thank you to everyone who’s put their faith in me to crack on with sorting out the bins, getting our pavements & roads fixed, advocating for housing equality and most importantly, keeping in touch all year round and ensuring you’re being listened to - not spoken at like in the past. It was a very close win, so it goes to show just how much your vote counts”.

Scottish Liberal Democrat leader and Edinburgh Western MSP Alex Cole-Hamilton joined Jack Caldwell in Pilrig on the day after the count (Saturday 7th May 2022) to continue knocking on doors, thanking residents for their support and hearing what they wanted to see done in the area in the coming years.

Councillor Caldwell's contact details can be found above or at edinburgh.gov.uk.
