Healthcare Budget Pledge Broken

Rebecca Bell, Scottish Lib Dem candidate for Edinburgh Northern and Leith, was dismayed by the Scottish Conservative debate on Local Government funding at Holyrood just recently.

Previously, the party had pledged to pass on 100% of any health budget consequentials from the Westminster government straight into our NHS.

However, it seems they have changed their minds on this policy, as the plans they have just put forward would mean that more that £600 million would have been automatically removed from the annual budget for NHS Scotland between 2018 and 2023.

What Scotland needs to see is a fair funding settlement, that is not top down and properly involves our local government in its creation. There are difficulties integrating our health and social care systems, we need a less inflexible funding system. If we are going to put the recovery first, we need to demand a better way of funding our local services, including our wonderful NHS.
