Have your say about local transport

Pentland Hills is greatly under-served by public transport compared to other suburban areas in Edinburgh.

The withdrawal of multiple bus services in the past few years has seen more residents forced to use their cars, and major new developments at Kinleith Mill, Rivermill, Kingfisher Park and Ravelrig Heights are set to pile even more pressure onto Lanark Road West in future.

Lib Dem councillors recently led proposals to Edinburgh Council to address the lack of services to St. John’s Hospital and South Gyle and the frequency of the service between Balerno and the City Centre in evenings and weekends. Unfortunately the proposals were defeated by the SNP, Labour and the Greens, but the Council Administration has at least committed itself to consult with local community councils on transport issues.

Meanwhile, the electrification of the railway between Shotts and Mid Calder should enable quicker trains with more seats to Edinburgh and Glasgow Central, but it is not yet known if they will be more frequent, and the lack of a bus service to Curriehill station limits their use.

We would love to hear from you about buses, trains, cycling, parking and anything in between.
