Following the worries over school buildings last year the council has looked at other public buildings. Residents will be aware that over the festive period the Drum Brae Leisure Centre gym and Studio 1 had to be closed during strong winds. It appears that the newer part of the Leisure Centre has similar problems to those identified in the affected schools.
The Leisure Centre has stated that the gym and studio 1 are the only parts of the building affected, but that if winds exceed 35 mph (or gusts greater than 55mph) this part of the centre will be closed as a precautionary measure.
Local Councillor Robert Aldridge said: “The Leisure Centre quite rightly has prioritised public safety. It is now a matter for the council to repair the affected part of the building as quickly as possible.”
