Council passes extra budget

The council received extra help from both UK and Scottish Governments to assist with Covid expenses.

Lib Dem councillors presented a balanced budget, calling for an extra £7.5 milion to be spent on paths, pavements and potholes. We called for a special fund to help subsidise local community groups to get going again and for libraries and community centres to be opened as quickly as possible.

We also proposed a £500k fund to help carers who have not only done a magnificent job in the most stressful circumstances, but many of whom have also made enormous financial sacrifices to make the system work.

Unfortunately the SNP and Labour council administration won the day, spending less on basic repairs and maintenance than we asked for and half the amount on carers. They also created a funding gap of more than £3million for next year.
