Christine Jardine - Cost of Living Crisis

Pushing for more and better support for families and pensioners in the Cost of Living Crisis has been a main focus of my work in parliament over the past few months and in the constituency I have organised  a special surgery for those affected.

Christine Jardine said, "Since October my party has been calling for the windfall tax on the super profits of energy producers which the Government finally recognised in May was vital.

"But the package they came up with still doesn’t go far enough to overcome the problems faced by families and pensioners hit hard by the national insurance hike and stealth taxes. A household with two people on average earnings (around £34,000 each) will still be £800 worse off this year.

"And we still need the cut in Vat from 20 to 17.5 that I have been pushing for as well as, stopping the National Insurance rise and restoring the Universal Credit Uplift.

"Too many families and pensioners in Edinburgh West are now fearful of what the Autumn could bring with another increase in the price cape and spiralling inflation.

"I have, of course, been providing support to individual constituents but on June 17 I am holding a special surgery/event at Muirhouse Millenium Centre to try to help those struggline with the cost of living crisis. If you would like to come along please do get in touch with my office.
