A positive 2020 budget for Edinburgh

The six-strong group of Edinburgh Liberal Democrat councillors are proposing a positive budget as an alternative to the SNP/Labour coalition's cut-laden proposal.

The City of Edinburgh Council will be deciding the capital's budget tomorrow. The SNP-Labour coalition are proposing cuts to schools, libraries and other essential services such as education, which would see;

  • slashing the money available to head teachers in schools.
  • removing qualified teachers from nurseries.
  • ending free music tuition in our schools.

Our Council budget would halt these cuts.

Communities across Edinburgh tell us they want strong, visable and local policing in their area, which is why we're also opposing the SNP-Labour coalition cutting the entire Council budget for community policing.

Our budget would also protect library opening hours and retain professional staff, as well as fair funding for parks and greenspaces.

Lastly, Edinburgh's roads and pavements are a mess. Everywhere you look, there are potholes and crumbling surfaces. We are proposing an investment of £5million to tackle the backlog of repairs.
