Re-open Braid Road

The Council closed Braid Road to traffic on a temporary basis on 3 May to help people keep a social distance from each other when visiting the Hermitage during lockdown.  Although this was enjoyed by many local people, nearby streets suffered from rat running traffic through previously quiet residential streets. Given that schools are back and people are returning to work places, the closure has served its purpose.

Local residents need access to and from Morningside and the South and the continued closure of the road has resulted in huge congestion and increased air pollution on Comiston Road and outside South Morningside Primary School, as well as more rat running traffic through Greenbank Road and Lane.

The Council has decided to carry out a review of the closure of Braid Road, which may be considered at a meeting in November.  Signing our petition will show your support for re-opening Braid Road and for making the planned improvements.  We intend to present this petition to the Council at the meeting at which the review is considered.
