Bin strikes impacting Leith Walk ward

Not only are Edinburgh's bin strikes carrying on, but there will now also be strikes in 14 other Scottish Councils from tomorrow.

Unite the Union, who are striking, are quite clear that it's Holyrood who've got to cough up Council funding. Councillor Jack Caldwell said;
"There's very little I can do except back the Waste Officers for fair pay. Its unbelievable that the Scottish Government raised my salary 5% in April, but barely able to initially stretch to 2̶%̶ 3.5% for Waste and Cleansing who do the ACTUAL labour. Residents deserve a properly funded service! However I will keep the pressure on colleagues at COSLA to find a resolution and will highlight the higher impact on densely populated areas like around Leith Walk ward. I'll also be highlighting the issue of communal bins overflowing specifically to the Tenants' Rights' minister. In the meantime, please refer to edinburgh.gov.uk/binstrike for updates."
