One of the most frequent complaints made by local residents to the Council is that particular black street bins are full
to overflowing. Morningside Lib Dem Cllr Neil Ross has suggested a solution, namely to show a dedicated waste helpline telephone number on each communal street bin, and to give each a unique bin code number.
A similar system exists for reporting street lights (though an email is provided). This would enable members of the public to
report a full or overflowing bin more easily to the Waste department (by text or phone call).
Sadly, the Administration response to this was that it was not practical to have a unique code for 18,000 bins as they might be moved, and the Council Administration feel that the present means of reporting is adequate. The Waste and Cleansing Service is going to be conducting a Communal Bin Review, which will look at a range of ways to improve the efficiency of the service.
Hopefully all residents and users will use this opportunity to feed into this review and make suggestions of their own for a service that is considered by many to be in need of improvement.
