Play Parks

Edinburgh City Council is responsible for around 165 playparks spread across the City.

Over the years there have been repeated requests from residents to have playparks repaired and modernised, since many are not accessible to all and have very outdated equipment. In many cases that equipment is no longer fit for purpose.

The Scottish Government has made a commitment to support the upgrading of playparks but in terms of priorities, currently there is no clear understanding from the Council as to which parks are being upgraded and why they have been chosen.

The Lib Dem group got unanimous support for a motion  asking for, amongst other things, a report on which criteria are used when considering a playpark for refurbishment, and which parks are currently being considered.

Hal Osler said, "Having a family myself, and no access to a garden, I was very dependent on good local playparks to keep my children active and entertained and I know this is the same for many families.

"The Scottish Government is providing some funds to help upgrade facilities and it is important to know how that money is being spent and where."
